Zooma Training Plan

Hey I have uploaded a copy of the training plan I am using for the 2013 Zooma Half Marathon. Sorry it looks kinda crappy, I scanned it in and used it as a pic. The training schedule is nothing too intense, it's just to get me through to the finish line.  I made it up using this and that, and some more of this and some more of that!!  hahaha!! So for right now, I put my running days down for M/W/F and long runs on Saturday.  I needed something concrete to go by instead of flying by the seat of my pants... which is what I've been doing for the last two weeks.   I will be switching  it up, here and there... using it loosely.

Tuesday/Thursday I will be working out with Brian, the Hubs. He wanted to start some Circuit training... lunges, squats, push ups, burpees(yuck)... This week we will probably start off with what he is calling body weight complexes... don't even ask me what the hell that is... he has this book,  he's building a program with.  I will also be doing body pump 2-3 times a week, swimming, and sprinkling in some  Spin classes/riding my bike on beautiful days-weather permitted.  Now, it does seem like a lot, but I'm not going to do all of this in one week.  Please don't think I have gone temporarily insane, Tri training  officially starts in February for the Danskin Triathlon, so what I am doing is getting my training squared away.  Putting it out there, holding myself accountable.  All of the above will be part of my training but not every week. Once mid February rolls around, I'll have more of a set schedule since I'll join the YMCA Tri Training Group.  So here I go again... And, I'll leave it at that...

Bye for now...

New Piece of Gear

I just wanted to share that I finally got a new heart rate monitor.
I am S-T-O-K-E-D!!! I started using a heart rate monitor 3 years ago when I first started spinning at the YMCA.  I was curious to see what my heart rate was when I was huffing and puffing and  ready to pass out.  My first heart rate monitor was the Polar FT11   Loved, Loved, Loved, my FT11, but Polar does not make the Ft11 anymore.   Make a long story short, after 3 years of use, the battery died.  After months of being without my heart rate monitor, which drove me crazy when I was in the gym working out,  I went out yesterday and bought a Polar FT7.   It got really good reviews, and is comparable to my FT11.   I can't say enough good things about this brand.  My new Polar FT7 like the FT11 is pretty basic, it does just what I need it to do: heart rate, calorie counter, and fat burning zones, oh and I can upload the data to the Polar website to analyze my workouts.  But the thing I like about it most is that I don't have to spend and extra $50.00 sending it in for a battery replacement.  Whoo Hoo!!  Oh yeah, did I mention it was RED??? One of my favorite colors!! LoL...

"How Country Feels"

One of my favorite country songs on the radio...  Yes, for those of you who didn't know I like Country Music... This L.A. girl LOVES her some Country music.  And, Yes I do have some Country Roots!!! How do you think I met my husband, Brian?  Out in the country... At my Uncle and Aunts house who were having a BBQ while I was visiting from Los Angeles.  After a few Tequila shots... He was mine... Hahahahaha!!! Shhhh don't let him know I told you!!

"How Country Feels"

You were raised on an asphalt farm
Ain't never heard a rooster crow
Never walked barefoot by a river
Felt the mud up between your toes

You never rolled in the hay
You never thrown it in four wheel
Climb up on here girl
Let me show you how country feels

Let your hair down, hair down
Get you some of this laid on back
Kick your shoes off, kick 'em off
Get you some of this slow down fast
I'll take you up and down these hollers and hills
Let me show you how country feels

You ever watched the sun go down
From the bed of a pickup truck
Ever been so into somebody
You're still lying there when it comes back up

Girl what do you say?
Cut a path through that cornfield
Park down by the water
Let me show you how country feels

Let your hair down, hair down
Get you some of this laid on back
Kick your shoes off, kick 'em off
Get you some of this slow down fast
I'll take you up and down these hollers and hills
Let me show you how country feels

Let your hair down
Get you some of this laid on back
Kick your shoes off (Kick your shoes off)

Let your hair down, hair down
Get you some of this laid on back
Kick your shoes off, kick 'em off
Get you some of this slow down fast
I'll take you up and down these hollers and hills
Let me show you how country feels

Conversation with Dru...

For those who don't know,  Dru is the baby of my 4 children.  She is a bright, sweet caring,  yet feisty free spirited child  in the comfort of her own home.  Today she came home from school and our conversation began something like this:

Me: "Hey Dru what did you learn today in school?"

Dru:  "I learned about Marcus Lucifer King,  he's brown like you and Mee Maw, mommy"

Parker pipes in:  "he was killed by an ole white guy"

Me:  "Really"

Dru:  "yeah, and his wife was put in jail because she didn't want to take a seat in the back of the bus, so they made her go to jail"

OMG!!!  All I can say is I almost peed in my pants!! It was such a funny conversation her facial expressions were wild with excitement.  She was so matter of fact with this "just learned information".  She was so happy and proud  to share what she had learned at school with me.  It was hilarious!! It took every ounce of will power not to burst into laughter!!  I guess you had to be there... LMAO....

Swimmy Swim Swim....

After a month off, much coaxing and reassurance, Parker and Dru headed back to swim yesterday.  They both attend Nitro Swim , Parker going on 2 years and Dru going on 1 year. Dru is the one that needs the coaxing and reassurance.  It's not like she's never swam before, but since she went from Nitro 1 to Nitro 2, flew through each station, and is presently at Nitro 2 Station 7 (there are  10 stations in Nitro 1 and 2) Dru has become intimated by the distance and the idea of getting into the larger pool, where the BIGGER kids are, as she puts it.  Quite honestly between the two, she is a natural.  I thought Parker, my 7 year old would be the swimmer.  Don't get me wrong, Parker is a very strong swimmer and fast, but she has to learn to master the technique where as Dru naturally just grasps it, and just gracefully swims.  Of course, as gracefully as a 5 year old swims!!

Swim Dru Swim!!!

Parker is  presently in Nitro 2 Station 10 the last station before getting into the larger pool.  She is learning all three competitive strokes:   backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.  Parker will have to perform all three to pass  and get into the larger pool.    Dru on the other hand is in Nitro 2 Station 7 learning proper freestyle technique so she can swim 40 yards in order to pass to station 8.  Nitro 2 also covers treading water, survival floats,  and competitive turns.

I joke to people and say I am preparing both girls for their first job as  Lifeguards!! I'm kinda  NOT really joking. Hahahahahahahahahaha (insert EVIL laugh)!!!  I know,  I know I'm bad, but come on... that's the perfect job for teenage girls.  I mean it's only a Summer job!!

Good Eats! Yesterday's Post!

Wanted to share two things I made  today.

Picture does them no justice!
First I made some of those cake cookies... It's nothing unique or different, I'm sure some of you have made them.  In my group of friends, they were the thing.   It seemed like everyone was making them. So, of course I wanted to try making them.   I buy the ingredients, and the ingredients sit in my pantry for few months.  Today, I finally get off my butt, and bake them for Parker and Dru as an after school snack.
I'm not going through the steps of making them with you but I will post the link  Pumpkin Spice Cake Box Cookies .   Pretty easy, mix all ingredients, bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes... DONE!

On my dinner Menu   this week, we had Pioneer Woman Low Carb Burgers.  Yep, even my husband loved  the burgers.  I did throw in some of those crunchy, french fried onions, the ones on the traditional Turkey Day Green bean casserole.  Still a Low Carb Burger!! LMAO...Yummo!!

Easy
Simple to Make
DELICIOUS!!

You and I...

I have always been fond of indie-pop singer/songwriter, Ingrid Michaelson

This is one of her many cute songs...

Don't you worry there my honey
We might not have any money
But we've got our love to pay the bills

Maybe I think you're cute and funny
Maybe I wanna do want bunnies do with you if you know what I mean

Oh lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Well you might be a bit confused
And you might be a little bit bruised
But baby how we spoon like no one else
So I will help you read those books
If you will soothe my worried looks
And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

Lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
Lets get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance
Lets get rich and build a house on a mountain making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and I, you and I

To Run or Not to Run...

We smaller busted  ladies do understand!! LMAO!!
Did a Spin class today, or should I say  RPM because it's a Les Mills class.  Either way, I love Spin/RPM classes.  It was great to be back spinning again.  Great substitute when the weather is crappy and you can't get outside to cycle.   I then did 2.55 miles on the treadmill... I tried running but apparently my choice of workout tank tops came with a very non supportive built in bra... LMAO... Seriously... Not a very busty girl,  if you know what I mean, but every time I would start to run on the treadmill,  my girls would remind me they were not having a good time, so I had to settle for a brisk walk.   I did though put it on a 3-4 incline, so I don't feel too bad about not getting my run in this morning.  We can just say I did my first mini brick of the Tri Season... hahahahaha.... makes me feel better!!

Workout Summary:

2.55 Miles Run
10 Miles (Estimated) SPIN/RPM

No Pain No Gain... Hahahahaha....

Got back in my groove today... Today was the first time in over a week I have run.  I was able to do 2 miles on the treadmill and I can't stand the treadmill!!! I am scared though, I wont be able to walk, run, cycle or swim tomorrow, because also today is  first time I've been back to Body Pump in almost 3 weeks.  It's 9:49pm and I am  sore ALL over.  I feel as though someone has beat the living CRAP  out of me. No joke about it, I'm feeling miserably sore!!!  In the past I have always cursed myself the first day back to body pump.  I know better then to take time off from body pump.   I can barely walk or bend over, much less try to sit on the potty, OMG... Thank God I have no stairs to climb.  I am always so surprised  how quickly my body's  muscle memory forgets it has done body pump before.  I guess I shouldn't bitch, it could be worse.... LMAO.... I am sooo looking forward to my workout tomorrow am, this is me being sarcastic... hahahahaha....

2 Miles Run - 175 Calories
Body Pump  - 400 Calories

I'll post workout plan tomorrow...

About Me

” All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naive. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself.” ~Ralph Ellison
